VSA Xtreme agency organized another Czech BMX championship called Mercedes-Benz GRAND BMX 2016 that went down on 4th to 6th of November at Brno`s Sport Life 2016. The clash was supposed happen in the VSA Xtreme MAX ramp. First riders started coming in soon on friday morning to get a bit familliar with the "MAX ramp" and Mercedes-Benz zone plus all it`s partners` expositions were open for visitors.
The contest started with friday`s Amateur finals (riders up to 15 years). There were 10 young and obviously beginner registered riders where one to mention is 10 years old VSA Xtreme summer camp member Petr Skopek, who was the only one riding the 16" bike and managed to conquer 2nd place. The only one riding better than Petr was local rider Jan Kozel who won and took home the title of Czech BMX champion in Amateur category.
Saturday was ment to be the main day of the whole festival as well as of the Mercedes-Benz GRAND BMX 2016 contest. The crowds were floating in and riders kept coming to registrate with final number 30, divided into two categories. Amateur category up to 18 years of age and PROs. The qualification has begun and only 10 out of 17 registered PRO riders were going into finals. After a little warm up it was time for the Amateur finals to begin where the hottest candidates for win were Michal Calta and Krystof Odehnal. However when Jirka Pokorny entered the course he surprised everyone with his clean style and huge bag of tricks he was throwing all around the place. After his showtime it was obvious it`s him whos gonna be taking home the Czech BMX champion title.
Highligh of the whole GRAND BMX 2016 contest were definitelly PRO category finals with 7 VSA Xtream team riders in. Right before this madness started we have announced the winners of 10 Author helmets plus one Kink Kong 24" complete bike and the clash was ready to begin. The level of each run and tricks that`s been pulled was just insane. It`s great to see where has the czech BMX scene gone in last couple of years. Even an experienced team of judges like Zdenek Safarik, Radek Chlud and Kuba Trojan had a real tough time in choosing of the Czech BMX title winner. After the long discussion they have finally decided to let Erig Figar win, which was well deserved as he was killing it all day. Mercedes-Benz best trick winner was Michael Beran with flair drop for which he was given a V class car with full tank and one week time to ride it. Succesfull event was later on ended with an afterparty going on till early morning hours.
After a lot of positive feedbacks we gots it is a sure thing there will be another round next year going down from 10th to 12th of November 2017.
Thanks to all the riders, partners, spectators and everyone who have helped to make this event reality. See you all next year at Sport life 2017.
